Great British Climbing HolidaysWelcome to our Great British Climbing Holidays page at Holiday Cottage to Rent. If you’re a fan of climbing, there are some great locations in the UK. Many of the best places to climb are in the most picturesque parts of the country and it can be a great idea to hire a holiday cottage as your base for a climbing holiday. You can spend all day climbing and then relax by a roaring log fire in the evenings. It’s no coincidence that the best climbing spots are also favourite locations for holiday cottages! The Peak District has over 10,000 different climbs to try out – and the national park is a beautiful place to rent a cottage, too. The northern area of the park is called Dark Peak, and is mainly gritstone. For the uninitiated, gritstone is a great climbing surface, as you get plenty of traction in your rock climbing shoes. In the south of the Peak District, there are plenty of limestone crags on the White Peak. These limestone climbs are steeper and a bit more challenging. Limestone highlights include High Tor, Dovedale towers and Beeston Tor. For novices, the gritstone might be a better place to try out your climbing gear, in areas like Burbage and Froggat. The Lake District is often said to be the home of rock climbing, and is a really beautiful place to spend time doing other exploring as well as climbing. It contains the highest number of mountains and fells in England. There are easy climbs as well as extreme routes, suitable for traditional and sport climbers. Snowdonia in north Wales has some of the most varied climbing routes in the UK. There are mountains, cliffs and crags to climb. There are sport climbing routes, where there are bolts in place permanently on the rock face. You can also climb the slate quarries of Llanberis. For beginners, the Ogwen Valley is a good place to climb. For people with some climbing experience, the renowned Cenotaph Corner is at the Llanberis Pass. Of course, this is just a taste of some of the most popular climbing locations in Britain. Whether you choose where to holiday for the location of your holiday cottage first and then the climbing – or vice versa – you’re bound to find something to suit everyone in your party. Thanks for visiting our Great British Climbing Holidays page. We hope it helped find what you were looking for. |
